Q/A – lower bar for entry?

I've been self-teaching for about a year now, directed in large part by various subreddits, including this one; and in that year I've learned how much goes into being a competent developer/software engineer.

Now I know the bar is already low in the current market (fingers crossed), especially if you network well, but for somebody without a CS degree (like me), would it be a good idea to try to specialize in QA/testing? In the rush to teach everyone and their dog to code, there is an enormous emphasis on the popular public-facing production stacks, but there doesn't seem to be much about QA? Is the bar not lower? Are not job prospects slightly better?
