Boss Battle Ideas

Video

Recently I've been "researching" boss battles, and I've come up with a few things that seem to be present in all the "good" boss battles I've made/played (feel free to add/correct me)

  1. Bowser is usually not present.

  2. Generally involves either waiting a certain amount of time and/or completing an action multiple times in order to win.

  3. Powerups are present but are in a limited amount and/or are just mushrooms.

  4. Not as common as the others, but different "stages" of the boss, i.e. more and more enemies keep appearing, or ramping levels of dangerous enemies appear over time.

  5. Good aesthetics of the boss room/arena really add to the overall fight.

Using these ideas I whipped up my own one last night around 2am, and I think it turned out pretty well: Survive: Piranha Plant

u/ceave also has a great video about boss fights that I recommend.

So, tell me, what do you like to see in a boss fight?
