Mahd (Dowry) Whats the average, and how much did you pay?

I've heard stories of close friends where the marriage deal is about to seal, but it breaks off due to unrealistic amounts of Mahr. I am currently in the Mahr talks stage myself, and have found the price to be quite high. Where do you live, and whats your average Mahr?

Update: First, I'm very thankful to Allah. Alhamdulilah bkth families have come to an agreement. The other party made a bit if sacrifice in terms of going against their norm of Mahr Nikah Waleemah Costs and have made it easier. May Allah place barakah in all marriages made easy for His sake.
