On the communal hatred of Ron Anderson
We're aware of this character, greatly, mostly through his death in the latest episode when he was about to shoot Rick and Carl, and his overall antagonistic nature towards the Grimes family. We hate this character, I don't like him, and there's very little justifying liking him. But here's the thing:
Ron was introduced less than one season ago, in 5x12. As a result of the conflict surrounding his father, he was never really given any chance to be liked in the first place, and I don't really think this is his fault. Think about the family that he might have grown up in before Rick's group arrived.
A physically abusive father, a mother who couldn't fight the abuse, and a socially isolated little brother. Easily a dysfunctional place to be growing up in. The domestic abuse began before the ZA even began, so I'm going to estimate that it began in Ron's pre-teen years, 11-12.
Conversely, we see Carl, who, even during the early days of the ZA, he kind of was raised very, very lovingly. He had both of his parents throughout, and even when he had to participate in a cesarean section birth of his own mother, an event which would traumatize any son, he was still treated with the utmost of love and care from his community.
And some of us still hated early Carl, because we thought he was annoying or a nuisance or anything. Season 2 Carl was probably one of the least enjoyable phases of any character throughout the show. But the love he was given made him last into Season 3 and beyond, and then we were able to like him.
I'm not sure. I'm just saying that the dislike of Ron needs to be taken into context.
