Question about STD (short term disablilty)

It is looking like I am going to have to make a claim for STD because of medical reasons now I know this may be a stupid question but being on leave for something like that doesn't affect your benefits does it?

And for anyone who has been on STD or LTD does your benefit premium come out of the leave pay?
