Why is there so much controversy about 'DevOps'

It seems like for everything i read about devops; theres someone else saying "Devops isnt a thing, it's just a buzzword" or "Its just sys admins who talk to devs"

I don't really understand why there is so much backlash about the word. Is it that just like 'cloud' or better yet 'synergy', it means so many things to so many people that it essentially has no meaning at all?

It feels to me like we're arguing over terminology, not really that devops is a bad thing
