What's your pre-mission routine?

I tend to wipe everything and completely configure my soldiers before every mission. I realize this takes a long time, but I'm always paranoid that I'm not going to have the perfect combination of classes, items, armors, etc to give me the best chance of success.

I'm wondering what you guys usually do. Considering I've seen some people who had completed multiple campaigns only a week or two after launch, I have to believe that some people have a "set it and forget it" mentality when it comes to soldier loadouts and other options like that.
