Mod to reduce the grind

Hello all,

I'm looking for a mod to reduce the grinding of minecraft. I've stopped playing the game for a while and I'm looking to get back into it, but it's difficult for me to do the things I enjoy in game (exploring, building, goofing around) when it so often requires some grinding first. I'm looking for a mod that:

• Makes mining and building easier. Tools to help with building, maybe unbreakable tools, a faster enchanting system, etc.

• Preferably compatible with earlier versions of the game, like around 1.5/6 area.

• I am not looking for a huge modpack like FTB. I've tried those and I don't like their complexity and how far they stray from the vanilla feeling. I'd like to accomplish my goal with only a few mods, if more than one.

So far I've looked into dartcraft, which seems like a good fit, apart from its integration with larger mods. It seems like it must work with FTB to get all of its features. And I'm not sure that dartcraft is compatible with my preferred updates.
