Publishing intimate details of sex crimes?
I have a website that covers female sex crimes. So far, I have only copy and pasted news stories from other sources, which is certainly safe. However, I am contemplating publishing explicit details from police reports obtained via public records requests that haven't been reported in the media.
While the information is technically public record, it is simultaneously embarrassing for the suspects and not exactly relevant (newsworthy), so I am curious what could happen if I end up ticking someone off. I know you can get sued for just about anything, but would a plaintiff have any chance of winning a lawsuit based on the sharing of public records? I am in NJ.
