The 2 most straight forward....

There are a lot of really heavily conspiratorial theories popping up that require a lot of leaps of faith and bizarre acts like stealing someone else's bones. But there are really straight forward explanations that cover the two most strong alternative ways of interpreting the evidence here. Those are;

  1. SA did it and police attempted to bolster evidence, corrupting the integrity of most the evidence whilst doing so (and that was further reinforced by incompetence)

  2. Someone else familiar with Avery property did it and police shaped the evidence away from them to SA

And I guess for arguments sake there is a 3rd scenario that I see as less likely/plausible.

  1. (Least likely/high risk) someone else unconnected to Avery property did it and then moved the evidence to the Avery property.

Strang & Buting never introduced any doubt about it being TH car, or suggested she was still alive, so I'm not sure why these "out there" ideas are becoming so popular?

First of all let's think about it rationally. This isn't exactly the most competent police force. They weren't even smart enough to cover the trail they left showing that they likely knew SA did not rape Penny. Some knew before (Koucourek, Vogel) , some after (Lenk, Petersen).

They absolutely botched so much of the evidence collection. If they planted all the evidence already then what benefit is there to botch it up and make it lose integrity? Lenk & Colburn's evidence is most likely the evidence planted, with Sherry's incompetence or complicity giving them the forensic results they needed to go along with that.

So the chances of them pulling off some elaborate conspiracy to plant a car and bones unrelated to TH within 5 days? I'd say almost zero.

If we take the SA isn't the killer option 2 that would be the one that is easiest to pull off! There were several others who could have had the same motive and opportunity as SA (plus there was a murderer and a sex offender customers on the property that day).

The police take the opportunity presented to erase (or at least try to) arrows that may point elsewhere. That's so easy to do by not investiaging them and by not bothering to pursue a DNA result that they can't account for.

Whether SA is innocent or guilty I think it really detracts from the sub when people get so fixated on a particular suspect that they won't consider the other viable options. Or they get stuck on a particular far out theory like The German, or Carmen Boutwell's bones.

I think it's ok to say that because of the condition of the bones they could not be definitively linked to Teresa . But to then take this and bend it to mean they planted someone else's bones or that Teresa is alive!?

These things are possible in the same way the school bus driver may have dug up a grave and help TH fake her own death and leave the country....within the realms of possibilty but really highly unlikely. There are far is simpler, more plausible and evidence based theories available and it would be really nice to see the sub get back to a more rational looks at the story the documentary makers went to great lengths to bring us.
