Horus Heresy kill team? Has anyone done it? Ideally with just a copy of BaC

I really want to play 30k but it's simply right out of my budget. Because I love the models and books though I can't leave the idea alone. I was wondering if anyone had ever tried playing kill team with legion forces. Also if it works, anyone who has it, do you think the BaC box would give enough options for 2 players.

I should say I watched a game of the actual BaC board game but it's not for me.
