Is it worth it to become a translator in the UK?

Hi!

I've been wondering about becoming a Chinese language translator in the UK, but from what I've seen, the pay is not that good, considering most of the jobs are in London, or they're freelance. So before I do anything, I would like to know if it's still worth it.
