Alternatives to mini pill ...

Have only ever used mini pill...experience hasn't been amazing but am interested in other types of bc. I have history of dvt (maternal grandfather had blood clot) and so am always told (by doctors/nurses) I can't have anything else. Does this sound right? Surely there must be other options. Have read up but information is often Contradicting.
