Building a java web application but I'm getting lost in a sea of frameworks.
Hi,
I want to build a web application that allows me to upload and download files to a server I have at home. Basically my own personalized cloud storage service. I want to have a website where I can log in, see the files on the filesystem and upload/download.
I have beginner-intermediate knowledge of the Java language, but have never built a Java web application before.
I started looking into this today, but I've been going round in circles. I was reading about Java EE, then Servlets. Then I'm told that Spring is much better. Then "No, no, you want to be building a web app with Play", "Nope, Grails is so much better". I even got to a point where Ruby on Rails was being recommended to me instead of doing anything Java related.
I'm lost with it all. Spring looks good and I have heard of it before, but it looks overly complicated for what I need to do.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should be approaching this with my level of knowledge?
If anyone has any links to tutorials/videos too, that would be great.
