What are the fastest and easiest ways to get advertising on your wordpress site?

I would like there to be a discussion of everyone's best and proven methods for placing advertisements on their site and move their sites into a way to make money. I personally have used Google ad sense but found the whole process to be daunting and a little challenging to get approved. Has anyone had any better luck with other resources?
