Question regarding turning a driving permit into a drivers license

A bit of context:

I'm 18 years old and still haven't gotten my permit due to poor planning, lack of a ride, no direct need for a permit and a failed attempt. I will be needing a drivers license within the next 6-ish months, though.

My question is if I can get my permit and turn it into a full license within 6 months of having the permit despite the 12-month requirement. This tells me if I'm 18 or older I don't need to have held an intermediate license for 12 months. It doesn't directly say if I can/can't get the full-unrestricted license if I only have had my permit for X amount of months.

Any clarification on how this will work out for me will be greatly appreciated.
