TØP diss Drake?
Given the known fact that Tyler does not like Drake, who else thinks the second verse in HeavyDirtySoul is a reference to "The Motto"
Lyrics: Mindless zombies walking around with a limp and a hunch, Saying stuff like, "You only live once." You've got one time to figure it out, One time to twist and one time to shout, One time to think and I say we start now, Sing it with me if you know what I'm talking about.
I'm curious as to why Tyler doesn't like Drake and I think I have an inkling, which may be addressed in this song.
I feel like Tyler doesn't like the message Drake sends to young people. "The Motto" is this song that's about living in the moment (which I doubt he has a problem with that) but it's saying you only live once so go out and party, get drunk, do drugs, get money, do whatever the f you want.
Tyler and Josh just aren't into that kind of lifestyle (they're very religious, they don't drink, they aren't in the music biz to be rich, etc.) and one thing I've noticed about Tyler's lyrics is that he always encourages you to think, be introspective, etc. (re: In "Holding Onto You" he wrote "Lyrics that mean nothing we were gifted with thought," "Car Radio" lyrics, there's other examples, you get the point).
So I think the lyric "One time to twist and one time to shout" is referring to the lyrics and the message of "The Motto" and then right after that, "One time to think and I say we start now" is Tyler's rebuttal of what he thinks the term YOLO should mean and that's why he then says "Sing it with me if you know what I'm talking about."
Maybe Tyler wishes Drake would have written something with a little more substance? Maybe he resents Drake for wasting an opportunity to say something meaningful?
Well that's my interpretation, given what I know about Twenty One Pilots. Thoughts?
