Honest question about unclean animals

I'm aware that some animals are considered unclean in the Koran. What does this mean when encountering these animals in the wild? Should Muslims ignore wild boar (if that qualifies as a pig), or should these animals be actively kept away (or killed even). I know the pork meat can't be eaten, and if I understand correctly there are some rules about having dogs but what exactly is the logic/rules about dealing with these animal in other situations?
