Admirals Club Day Pass: Must be used on AA flights?

I always mix up the two between the United Club and Admirals Club. I believe if you have a pass for United, you have to be on a United flight. I just redeemed flights on Virgin Atlantic, and I have both UA/AA passes. I wanted to be sure I could use the Admirals Club pass for London Heathrow.
