Religious Literacy help or hurt Christian Debate

I believe the debate's God's existence, Theodicy (Good all powerful God and evil), or general Christian points of tension would benefit from a general idea of religious literacy.

The debate question is "Should someone seek an understanding of religion proper in a debate with a Christian. Or can it be ignored if the topic is not centered on a religious subject such as a biblical question."

Harvard has put out a video and a FREE online class on this subject, linked is the youtube video. https://youtu.be/U-YQXRrNo70 In the youtube description is the edx Class facilitated by Harvard. I think it would be a benefit.
