Can't seem to get RGB LCD display to work with my WeMos D1

I've only ever worked with the Uno before for past projects, so forgive me if it's something simple I'm missing. I'm trying to get a WeMos D1 board to work with my Adafruit 16x2 RGB LCD Display, using this guide. I've gotten the same display to work with my Uno, but when I try to connect it to the WeMos it doesn't work. The only thing I'm doing different from the guide is changing the code's definitions for the pins (3 to D3, 5 to D5, etc.), besides pin D10, whose wire I've moved to D13 due to D10 being the SS for the ESP module. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!
