Let's take a look at the last ten games.
As is the norm after a bad loss, Thunder Nation is in nuclear meltdown mode. We're not contenders, this is a bad organization, FIAR DONOVAN, all the usual rhetoric.
Let me be clear: I'm just as angry and embarrassed about this loss as anyone. We got our asses kicked on our home court on national TV. It's not a good look for the team in any way. But it's not the end of the world. Sometimes, teams come into a game and just don't have it that day. I think that's a big part of what happened today. However, since a lot of people here think that the sky is falling, let's take a look at the last ten games.
- Won 128-122 in OT @ Knicks; KD and Russ take control in the 4th/OT, good production from Ibaka, Waiters, Payne
- Won 126-123 @ Timberwolves; LaVine scores 35 on us, but good games from KD/Russ/Kanter/Waiters help to hold them off
- Won 116-108 vs. Rockets; Once again, KD/Russ/Kanter/Waiters have the bulk of production as we handle Houston
- Won 114-98 vs. Wizards; Durant has 28, Russ gets a triple-double, Ibaka with 19-10 in a easy win
- Won 117-114 vs. Magic; Russ 24-19-14, KD 37-5-5 and a badass game-winner, Kanter 13-7 in another thriller against Orlando
- Lost 116-108 @ Warriors; We came back from a 20-point deficit to give the Warriors more of a fight than most teams have this season, KD has 40-14-5, Russ has 27-12, Kanter 14-15
- Won 122-106 @ Suns; KD scores 25 in the second half as we pull away from PHX, Russ with 29-8-8, Waiters scores 15, Kanter and Payne score 11 each
- Won 121-95 vs. Pelicans; Russ and KD score 23 each, Ibaka/Kanter/Morrow in double figures as we beat the Pels easily
- Lost 101-98 vs. Pacers; KD scores 31, Russ has 23-18, Ibaka and Kanter both have double-doubles but the Pacers hang around, kneecap us late, and steal the win
- Lost 115-92 vs. Cavaliers; KD scores 26, Russ 20-11-9, Ibaka scores 12, but LeBron and Love steamroll us in the 3rd
So we're 7-3 in our last ten, with the three losses against playoff teams. We lost to GSW because they executed better than we did in the clutch. Indy hit four threes in the last 2:30, including the first three of Myles Turner's career and two threes from 30% shooter Monta Ellis, to take us down. And today we forgot how to basketball after Russ's highlight dunk in the 3rd.
Is a performance like we had today acceptable? Not in the slightest. Did Donovan coach a good game today? No, I don't think so. But he, the players, and the rest of the organization haven't become garbage all of a sudden.
