Democratic Socialism vs. Democratic Oligarchy

I want to know why so much emphasis is placed on Senator Sanders' title as a democratic socialist, when the status of a country currently is basically a democratic oligarchy. I was pissed off this morning when I listened to the media dismiss Senator Sanders as a candidate after Clinton's win in Nevada. The citizens of this country who rely on the TV media to inform them are under the impression that Clinton is the only electable candidate because of his affiliation with democratic socialism. People on both sides of the isle agree that since Citizens United has happened, we are more of an oligarchy than a democracy. Senator Sanders is being honest with his affiliation with a democratic socialism. Everyone is lying to themselves when they don't claim our nation being a democratic oligarchy.
