[Question] Is there any good way to verify the authenticity of a fossil?
I hope this sub is the right place to pose this question.
For Christmas, my girlfriend bought me a Charcharodontosaur tooth from a local shop which specializes in fossils and related jewelry. It is by far the coolest gift I have ever received. She said the man at the store told her it was authentic (a real fossil, not a cast).
I've been reading around a little bit and learned that fake fossils come up from time to time, particularly from Morocco, where my Charcharodontosaur came from. I don't have any reason to believe mine is less than genuine, but it would be nice to find a way to confirm this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
