The beta is closing up soon, let's have a discussion

Discussion

Now while I have been busy during the beta, I did get a chance to spend about 10 hours in it and I have a few concerns, but at the same time I have many things I like about it. Let's start off with the not so good.

The first and foremost thing that's pretty unfortunate is the mobility in this game. The game really has no fast travel so you have to walk everywhere, which I love, but holy hell even with your first mount you move extremely slow and very clunky on the mount, which makes it harder to explore and really makes me want to just autorun to destination. Without the mount it's even worse with your little stamina bar that depletes almost instantly, and when you're running you apparently run like an idiot, not able to do sharp turns.

Speaking of autorunning, using it to get to a destination isn't that amazing either. The pathfinding is a bit silly and a few times my character just went back and forth constantly because it was changing paths to the same place.

The energy/workpoints/vigor system is pretty strange too. Why in the hell do I have to pay points to talk in the side chat? Than again why would I even want to talk in side chat considering how awful it is, filled with racism, sexism, and trolling.

In another social sense, the lack of unique outfits stinks as well. So far most outfits look the same, and the ones that are different (can't really say good) are behind a pretty pricey paywall.

On top of that this game does not explain important things like trading, the auction house, crafting, or nodes at all. There should be a quest line for these things, and if there is, I should of hit it by now being level 20.

Continuing on with quests, they're pretty basic and for the most part boring. All of them are "collect 10 bear asses" or "kill bears indefinitely so you can take their asses faster", and finally "kill the king bear and take his ass". With that said, I really don't mind them at all and kind of enjoy the grindy nature, but I understand 100% why others wouldn't. On that note, they need to fix some of the questing. When I first played I was trying to do the imp quest and each of them took over an hour to do because there were so many people, on every channel, that I couldn't get a kill. They need to allow players to simply get quest items (or have a chance to) if they do damage to something at all. It promotes team work and a less tense vibe trying to quest against others.

Oh and the voice acting is terrible, though that doesn't detract from this game at all.

with that said this game has a lot of good things to it as well. To start out with, the combat is AMAZING. I'm a huge fan of dodging and action combat like Dark souls, and this game really does it well.

The game in general feels alive. The world is always bustling with activity with NPCs and at night people are gone home. Blacksmith John isn't smashing at his anvil 24/7 like in many other games.

That's actually an interesting thing that I want to emphasize. The small things in this game are the things that make it unique. How people in cities go to bed and are gone for the night, how you need a lantern to see in the dark, how being on paved roads are better than non paved, how night makes enemies stronger and you gain more Exp. How when it rains out or you go swimming, your character gets wet. How your armor visibly degrades when it's damaged.

Not to mention the graphics are beautiful but the game does need optimization (running a gtx 980 ti and a 5820k and getting fps drops in major populated areas).

There are many other things I like, but these are the things that directly stood out to me. If I didn't mention something odds are I enjoy it or at the very least don't have a complaint about it.

All-in-all though, the game is great fun and I can't wait for it's release. I'm excited how the world becomes with it's sandbox nature and I hope that the devs do some fixing with a few of these things as I don't really think that these are anything that's beneficial being how they are. So I'm interested in how other people feel. Do you like the game? Are you not going to play it after the beta?
