What Happened to the American Military Overseas during/After the Great War?

It is said and implied that during October 23 2077, The US Military was in China during the Great War. So What exactly happens to the Personnel overseas when all hell broke loose? it could be assumed at least some naval vessels were out at sea, is it said anywhere what fate befell them?
