"Yes I work here, but not right now"
On mobile, sorry if shitty formatting.
HELLO. Just found this subreddit and it speaks to me on a spiritual level. Thought I would get in on the fun. Not sure if this story fits the sub entirely but I thought it was kind of a nice spin off.
I'm a 21 year old college student with two part time jobs. One of these jobs happens to be at the only grocery store on campus. Because of its location,it has lovingly been nicknamed the "Kroghetto" by its workers. We've seen some shit. Uniform = blue collared shirt with logo on sleeve, name tag, and black pants
This is a couple of weeks ago. I'm on my day off. I'm grocery shopping at around 11am and I don't have class until 7. I personally enjoy grocery shopping so I'm relaxing with my cart and my headphones in making sure my coupons match up and such.
It is important to note that I always had a feeling this would happen, so I purposefully look like an unidentifiable lump of potatoes on grocery day (yoga pants, school t-shirt (yellow), disheveled bun, no make-up, etc.)
Enter entitled, but slightly correct bitch (EB)
EB: making forceful eye contact and kind of leaning into my lane HEY. You work here don't you??
Me: not feeling like getting into the whole "yeah but not right now" thing no, sorry ma'am have a good day
EB: YES YOU DO I KNOW YOU DO YOURE A CASHIER. Now, help me find super-fucking-easy-to-find-thing-if-i-read-the-signs
Me: okay yes I do work here, but not at this present moment and actually not at all today. Today I'm just a student. But the item you're looking for is in the organic section on aisle 2. If you need further assistance there's an associate at the end of this aisle.
EB: are you serious. Seriously. You and I both know it's store policy for you to walk with me to make sure I can find the item so let's go.
Me: You aren't wrong but at this very second, I don't technically work here. I'm not getting paid for my time here, it's my day off, I am grocery shopping for myself, I'm not in uniform, your item is on aisle 2. Have a nice day.
EB: BUT YOU DO WORK HERE YOU ADMITTED IT SO COME HELP ME
Me: yeah sure no problem, just come back on Saturday. My shift starts at 1:30 and I will be more than happy to walk you to dumb fucking item
EB: IM GOING TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER ABOUT YOU TELL ME YOUR NAME
Me: marshmellowsup replaces headphones and continues grocery shopping
Never heard anything about it. We get a lot of crazy people coming through this grocery store and the managers know that. I also personally happen to be a magnet for such folk and a few managers also know that.
Also, if I hadn't already recognized this lady as a problem regular I may have handled the situation differently. She one time lied about being a secret shopper in an attempt to get special coupons and then when those secret coupons didn't exist, she threatened to have us all "fired and blacklisted from any other grocery jobs". Oh wow, I'm shaking.
