Karma Support Building Tendencies and Playstyle

Build Tendencies:

Am I the only one who desires to go a more AP-centric build but having to settle for cheap items due to lack of gold income? Do you go FQC or Eye of Watchers? I'm starting to like Eye since it lets you get to my next item which would probably be a Morellonomicon. Any comments?

Playstyle: I really have trouble in lane. If I am not poking I feel useless, which leads to overaggression which gets me killed. I watch a ton of Karma support gameplays and sometimes I just feel like I do no damage at all compared to the videos. How do I overcome the "pushing lane by hitting minions with RQ instead of only champions" and how safe is the lvl 2 Root for kill / how frequent / in what lanes should I be doing it? As an avid Karma main, Karma support ends up being my hardest lane for Karma, but my favorite one.
