Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen clone
Just kegged my clone of Schlenkerla's marzen rauchbier! A little undercarbonated, but thats to be expected if it was kegged an hour ago. Taste is dead on though!
If you haven't tried a rauchbier before, do yourself a favor and grab this one. It's pretty heavily imported, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. It tastes like a campfire, in the best possible way.
Recipe (6 Gallons)
OG: 1.063, FG: 1.016, ABV: 6.13%
- 14 # Weyermann Rauch malt
- 0.5 # Chocolate malt
Mash 60 min @ 154 F, 1.25 qt/lb Collect 7 gallons
Boil 90 minutes
1.5 oz Hallertau @ 60min
Whirfloc @ 15 minutes
Pitched directly onto a WLP800 cake immediately after a black pilsner had been racked into a keg. Fermented @ 48 degrees F
Took about 4 days to finish primary fermentation due to the massive amount of yeast. It got going so vigorously that I actually had to duct tape the lid of my fermenter down to the bucket. I was unclogging the blowoff tube 2-3 times a day. Made a mess out of my garage, but more than worth it!
