Shatterer and the Jump Pads - if you know it, know this
I, like many of you, have been trying to complete the new Shatterer back piece collection. The biggest issue seems to be defiance bar related challenges (No Fly Zone & Smash the Dragon).
It's a simple concept - use the pads to fly and drop bombs to quickly break the defiance bar - made difficult by how short a time this action is available for.
The real problem, as I've seen it, is that the people who have a good understanding of the timing of it don't seem to have a good understanding of how to convey this. You get people calling out "Jump" / "Pads" / etc when folks should already be in the air dropping bombs, but by time players have made it to the pads time's almost up already. This results in the people calling out for the pads to start mouthing off on map chat at everyone around them.
So, my suggestion / request is simple. If you have a solid understanding of when we're supposed to be airborne, give a call out early enough so we can make our way to the pads, then back up over Shatterer, because the alternative is a bunch of us just standing around at the pads, which isn't very fun.
Now, I'm sure this is likely to get downvoted, more thank likely by the folks who I'm stating I've got a problem with, but eh, it needs to be said. I appreciate the map chat logistics, but your timing's more than a bit off.
Edit: (revised to updated comment)
Quoting u/MithranArkanere because they pointed out something useful for those of us using the jump pads.
I just stay on the air permanently.
You can jump, throw 3 bombs, and fly right over the pad, and drop right into the pad, as there is no fall damage on the pads, so when you fall on them, you jump into the air right away.
The trick is staying close to the pads* by moving towards the pad between shots:
- After jumping, while facing the Shatterer, lean back so you don't go too far from the pad, and throw a bomb.
- Turn around, and lean forward towards the pad to get closer while the bomb recharges. You can also throw healing kits while doing this.
- Once recharged, turn around again, lean back again and throw the second bomb.
- Repeat for a third bomb, and you should have moved very little from the the pad. Fly right over the pad, drop.
- Ding, you are back into the air.
This way the time it takes you to go back into the air is just as much time as it takes for the bomb skill to recharge, so you are basically permanently dropping bombs, and whenever it goes into Defiance Bar mode, you will always land at least 2 bombs.
