Interested to read what relatives of redditors fought during the Second World War
If you had relatives that did indeed fight during WW2, post below. I am very interested to hear any information and or stories, as I'm sure many other people would be too.
I am Australian with a lot of German background, and had 3 relatives that fought. My mums dad (my pop) Fought in in the Australian detachment sent to North Africa, he then fought in New Guneia and through out the pacific as of 1943.
I had 2 relatives fight for the German side also, my great uncle in the Wehrmacht and my Great Grandpa for the Lufftwaffe. My Great Grandpa I know had 29 confirmed air kills. He was shot down in the battle of Britan but managed to ditch in the French country side and was shot down again over Sicily were he spent the rest of the war in a POW camp in England. My great Uncle fought in the invasion of France and then on the Eastern Front. He was wounded in the battle for Moscow and once he rejoined the frontline he was assigned to Panzer-Grenadier-Division Großdeutschland. He was Killed in the Battles for Memel in 1945 (aged 24)
