I (25m) am madly in love with my straight best friend (23m)

Theres no relationship we have been friends for 5 years and ive loved him since day 1. Long story short i tyler have been desperately in love with my straight best friend james for years and have exhausted every effort in ditching these feelings without loosing our friendship. He knows im struggling with this and cares deeply for me but gets really upset when im distant but i am to the point where it seems best to go our separate ways for the time being. I dont want to hurt him or loose james for hes the only guy that can make me feel the way he does and even just being his friend makes my world a little brighter but i feelvso empty when i see how little he loves me. It makes me go into a deep depression that only time seems to heal. I love him and would hate to loose him but im at the end of my rope. Anyway, any help or advice would be appreciated. What did/would you do in a related situation? Thanks guys.
