My [16M] father [53 M] is very disappointed in me in terms of academics
Hello Reddit,
My father has been very disappointed in my academics lately (throughout the year). We live in Canada btw.
I am achieving 90%-97% (except for English haha) on all my grades in school right now. I would like to attend an Ivy League university for my post-secondary studies.
For some reason, my (immigrant, professor) father is very disappointed in my academic success as he deems it not well enough.
He frequently expresses his disappointment and it's really heartbreaking. It's taking an emotional toll on me. He also tells me that I will end up homeless and/or working at McDonald's if I don't 'strive for excellence.'
My father always wants me to read books and study "extra stuff" in my spare time, which I always dismiss. Examples of extra stuff would be doing next year material in subjects such as math and writing commentaries/essays for 'fun' for English.
I DO spend more time on video games than studying, though, but I think that it's fine since I'm doing okay in school. I admit that I'm a lazy crap that does nothing in the family apart from bringing in 'decent' grades.
Also, I don't have any friends nor do I speak to people at my school. I do have a couple of gaming buddies online and that's it. I volunteer on weekends and I play CoD semi-competitively (involving some $) during pretty much all my spare time.
Should I cut on the video games and study more? Should I just ditch the Playstation 4 completely and devote most of my time to studying and reading? I've been ignoring him lately but I feel very guilty and ashamed.
tl;dr: My dad is disappointed in my academic performance even though I'm doing quite okay. Should I up my game or should I just ignore him?
Thanks!
