Installing Google Play Services on LETV X3-55 Pro (Solved)
I was able to install working Google Play Services on my flatscreen LETV X3-55 Pro. Before I had tried installing Google Play Services various versions and lastly version 430 (4 for Android V6+, 3 for "armv7a" CPU architecture that supprts LETV's Cortex A17 quad core CPU, 0 for "Universal" resolution aka "no dpi" because no other option supports LETV's Ultra 4K 3840x2160 resolution). LETV downloaded but always reported a "parse error". Side loading and installing had the same result. So here are the steps that finally worked:
-
On a PC, I downloaded Google Play installer apk from http://www76.zippyshare.com/v/DqMeYkMQ/file.html onto a USB stick. This is because I read that it needed to be side loaded.
-
I inserted USB stick into top port of LETV. In LETV FileManager, browsed to USB storage device. LETV found the google installer .apk and asks to open. Open it and install as any app.
-
Ran the installed Google Installer app like any app (clicked Home button on remote control). (From here on I followed along the lines of this Youtube video which is for LETV cell phones: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=google+on+letvGoogle ).
-
The app showed a list a google apps. It showed among others: "Google Play" (this is actually Google Play SERVICES with a red "g" icon) - 9.8 MB, Google Account Manager (icon is a letter evelope with red) - "M") - 5.6 MB, Google Services Framework (icon is a jigsaw puzzle piece) - 2.9 MB, and "Google Play" (this is actually Google Play STORE with a shopping bag icon - 5.6 MB. Don't confuse the two "Google Play". Used the up-down arrow keys on the remote to hilight the first app. The air mouse does NOT do anything in this list. Clicked the gray download icon in top right corner of screen.
-
The next screen asked to install, clicked it. This required a quick click, because a couple seconds later another message popped up saying that you don't have Framework and I clicked Continue. When a msg popped up that you don't have Google Play (this means the Store!), I hit Cancel (the Return key on the remote)! Let the install complete. The screen returned to the list. The list said that Google Play Services is "Installed". It said Google Account Manager and Google Services Framework were "Installing" but they did not even after a long time. If you accidentally clicked the wrong thing and "Google Play Store " got installed, you need to uninstall the app again at Step 9.
-
Hilighted the second app "Google AccountManager" even though it may read "Installing" and as above clicked the download icon and repeated step 4. Waited until list said "Installed".
-
Hilighted the third app "Google Account Framework" even though it may read "Installing" and again clicked the download icon and repeated 4. Waited until list said "Installed".
-
Hit "Return" key on remote twice to exit Google Installer app. Went back to LETV storage device option and ejected the USB stick. Recycled (shut down and powered up again) LETV using remote (this is the equivalent of rebooting).
-
After reboot, relaunched the "Google Installer" app (clicked Home button). Hilighted "Google Play" Store (shopping bag icon) and clicked the download icon. Waited until list said "Installed".
-
I went to TV Manager > App Manager. All 5 apps are there. I installed Netflix apk and Youtube apk, FOX apk and several other apk that use Google Play Services. All run fine. Even Netflix runs uninterrupted on all movies now. You can now use Google apps as onthe cell phone: install more apps using Google Installer app or uninstall it, use Google Account Manager app to setup your account to use the Play Store etc.
-
The first app that requested "Update Google Play Services", I did that right then.
