Does anyone have any information on DIY backplate building?

I have a EVGA 980 SC, and the backplates for them, as far as I can tell, have either stopped being produced or were never produced. Anyway if anyone has any information on building a backplate for a 980 I would appreciate it greatly or a backplate for any other card as I'm sure that would be helpful too. Thanks!
