Regarding battery life, is the New 3DS (not XL) much better than the original 3DS? Also, how does it compare with the original 3DS XL?

The reason I got a 3DS XL was because of the better battery life compared to the original 3DS, which had a disappointing battery life. However I don't much care for the larger size, I've found. Now that the New 3DS is an option in the US, have any of you who've used the older models previously been able to compare the battery life?
