[Fit Check SL120x]To taper and hem or return?

Hi all

I just picked up my third pair of raws after selling my APCs and blowing out my ACNEs. I initially got a pair of ST120x in a size 31 but was crippled when trying to button them up, and I returned them. However, selfedge was out of 32s, so I just ordered a size 32 SL instead of an ST. I got them, they fit through the thigh, but I have some space in the waist. I've heard to size by the thighs and either get the waist taken in, or just wear a belt. Is it feasible for me to get these tapered and hemmed from the knee down and maybe half an inch in the waist, or will it ruin the pants?
