The Ultimate Guide to Winning Chargebacks - An in Depth Guide by /u/StevoStevare

Chargebacks SUCK. Believe me, I know, I've had over $6,000 worth against me. Through trial and error I do believe I have found the most efficient way to deal with chargebacks and I am here to pass that onto you. Right now after all my newfound knowledge, my win rate is about 90%, so if you are a fraudster trying to pull one over on me, it ain't gonna work. (Just in case you're reading this :p).

What do to first:

Now, while unlikely, it may be a mistake. It may be a kid and a parent not speaking, or just a payment to [your name] that the person forgot about. Sometimes, if the buyer is half decent, just send them a quick message saying "Hey, I noticed you chargedback our transaction, was there a mistake?" and they will respond with something like "Oh, my mistake." and they refund you. On the opposite spectrum sometimes they are morons and will gloat about their big steal. One kid tried to take $400 from me and when I messaged him about it he responded with messages saying "haha got you faggot, it's my money now" and "give me a million coins for free and I'll cancel the chargebacks". These are the best types of people in that you simply send those screenshots into PayPal and you're sure to win your money back.

Now if they are indeed smart fraudsters, they will likely have you blocked. The next most important thing to do is to Call PayPal. I can't stress how important this is. Speaking to an actual person, explaining the situation, and having someone there while you submit the evidence is HUGE. Since our transactions involve intangible goods, shipping information is impossible. The next best thing is explaining how these transactions occur, and explaining why a picture of a player saying "you won" is proof you sold someone a product.

Types of Disputes:

Now, there are a bunch of things people say to try and steal your hard earned money back. Here are the types of disputes people make, and how to win in each case.

Non-Receipt: These are the easiest types of disputes to win. The dispute is directly with PayPal so the person on the phone has the power to give you your money back right then and there. Non-receipt disputes mean that the buyer is claiming that he/she did not receive the item. The conversation you and the buyer had is likely proof enough. A simple "Thanks" or "got it ty" is usually enough to convince the PayPal agent the buyer indeed got what they purchased. If they never respond, a screenshot including you buying who they listed, and an explanation of how our transactions work are usually enough to win.

Unauthorized Transaction: These are absolutely the worst types of disputes out there. Why? Well first of all the dispute is with the credit card company so PayPal agents really lose their power. Secondly they don't care if the item was delivered at all, they just care that the right person got it. An unauthorized transaction implies that someone else gained access to the buyers PayPal account and made a purchase. This rarely actually happens, however fraudsters tend to try and convince PayPal it does. So how to win? Prove that the name on the account, was the person you dealt with. If the Kik names add up all the better, but if they don't try and get proof that they are indeed the same person. A screenshot of them saying they sent the money from the given email, or a username containing the person's actual name are all pretty good proof. However, the PayPal teams still has to try and prove to the credit card company you are in the right. If the credit card company is stubborn, (which they sadly often are), you still lose, just because it's a virtual transaction, so remember the PayPal dispute team is fighting on YOUR side, so be extremely kind and thankful to them for earning your money back, because at the end of the day, it's how effort they put in.

Item not as described: Another pretty easy one considering most people will message you "Hey could I buy some madden coins" or something along the line of that. Once again simply show your conversation and you will likely win. These are also handled by PayPal so all the better.

Now, as my guide comes to an end I wish you all the best of luck with your dispute related issues. And, if you have any questions I will turn this into an AMA type deal regarding disputes. So please, ask any questions you may have down below.

Edit: Yes, there are more types of disputes, but the others are more uncommon but I'll happily help you with them if they come up in your account.
