starting a band

i have always wanted to be in a band and finally the opportunity has come. however, the person who wants to start the band is... kinda brain dead. He is a very knowledgeable and talented guitar play but, other than how to play, not much else going on up there. im just looking for advice because its hard for me to make decisions like this. any feedback appreciated
