Won my first store tournament!!
Just won my first tournament at my local game store.
Got a promo Darth Vader pilot card, some acrylic Extra Munitions tokens, a Millennium Falcon dice bag and a Boba Fett Firespray Medallion.
I was really nervous and figured I would lose probably about half my matches. (Was a Swiss 75 minute round tourney with 4 rounds total)
I practiced with my list for about 2 weeks and made a final tweak the night before which was a huge factor I think.
My list was as follow:
1: Corran Horn (E-Wing) with VI, FCS, R2-D2 and Hull Upgrade 45 points
2: Gold Squadron Pilot (Y-Wing) with TLT, BTL-A4 and R3-A2 26 points
3: Prototype Pilot (A-Wing) with Chardaan Refit and Autothrusters 17 points
4: Bandit Squadron Pilot (Z-95 Headhunter) 12 points
My first match up was against a Han Solo Falcon and a B-Wing with Ten Numb, admittedly it was flown by a player with little experience. I jousted against the B Wing and dispatched it quickly then blocked the Falcon for a few turns and she ended up flying it off the board.
Second match up was against a stacked Brobots with each at 50 points. I had brought both Bots down to half health so I got 25 points for each if time ran out. He destroyed my Y-Wing, A- Wing and Z95 which gave him 55 points. The time ran out during the planning phase so we got to finish the round. Corran got 2 hits on his initial shot and brought one Bot down to 2 HP. A few people started up saying that it was a close game, I chuckled and double tapped the Bot for the win. :D That was a very clutch last turn to say the least.
Third match up was against a Rookie X-Wing, Jan Ors in a HWK and Corran Horn. He destroyed my Y-Wing on the first round of shooting which really threw me on the backfoot and it was looking grim for me. The match came down to about 15 minutes left with Corran vs. Corran both at full health although he had brought my Corran down to no shields but R2 did his thing lol. The turning point for that match was when both our Corransq were right next to each other facing opposite directions. He was stressed and I was not. As you might guess I pulled that wonderful 3 K-turn and was able to stay behind him for the remainder of the match and eventually double tap him for the win.
Final match up was against Paul Heaver's 2015 Worlds list with the person flying it having gone 3-0 as well. I was sweatin' but my opponent made a huge mistake in his deployment. He deployed the 2 Y-Wings on the left side of his edge and deployed the Bandit and Poe on the other side. I had my fleet all deployed on the side with the bandit and Poe. I cam in fast for the joust against Poe and the Bandit and was able to hit Poe hard with the stressbot and take out the Bandit. His Y-Wings werent able to fire at anything for 2-3 rounds which gave me the time I needed to get an advantage. I ended losing my stressbot and the Bandit the A-Wing and Corran were able to finish em' off.
Overall for my first tournament I had a great time and did a great job flying. I look forward to competing in more. I will have to second what Paul Heaver mentioned in an interview after winning 2015 Worlds.
"Every Rebel player should run the stressbot."
