[TOMT][CARTOON] TV footage WITHIN episode of cartoon (possibly Alvin and the Chipmunks) involving a giant alien insect eating people.

Sorry for the confusing title but I didn't know how else to word it. When I was very young I was fairly disturbed by something that occurred within an episode of a cartoon. Something in my gut tells me it was in Alvin and the Chipmunks but I can't be sure. It's almost certainly a series but may have occurred in one of those extended "TV movie" special:

There is a scene early in this episode where the characters are up late watching some sort of horror film on their TV. In this film there is a human couple sitting in a car, in some sort of romantic setting (probably just talking about love - this is a children's cartoon). The car is picked up by some giant mantis-style insect and they are both abruptly eaten. There's no explicit violence but I think there were crunching sounds... This bothers the characters viewing (slightly less than it did young-me) and they get scared. If I recall correctly, one of them looks out their telescope not long after and sees what they believe to be a horrifying space-bug. The rest of the episode involves them preparing and/or warning of a coming alien invasion. They later realize what they witnessed was a normal-size bug on the telescope lens.

The movie-scene within the show has been burned into my memory and I was hoping someone could find it. I do feel pretty strongly that it was the Chipmunks, and one of the older (but perhaps not the oldest) versions of the show.

EDIT: Found it. I was searching the wiki episode-list for the wrong keywords, got it when I tried "Telescope". It was from "Alvin and the Chipmunks episode 47A: Simon Says". If anyone's interested, Here's the Episode. Not half as bad as I recall but still pretty intense for the target audience.
