Anniversary hike and camp [suggestion thread]
My SO and I are celebrating our first year together and would like to hike and camp in your area. The national forest specifically appeals to me for proximity and ease of access.
I plan on driving up one morning and parking for two nights as we hike and camp throughout for those nights.
Any recommended routes? Your favorites with and without campsites.
Do I need permits? National parks generally require one but I'm a resident who camps in other states and I'm not sure how residency can work in my favor.
Personal safety concerns? I've heard about perpetual campers (homeless) being pests. I have a pistol and am well informed on concealed and open carry laws in the state.
I'm fairly experienced in camping out for a couple nights at a time and have no real worries as far as supplies and personal items (bear hangs, keeping warm, reading trails).
I'm basically asking for your personal opinion and where you've enjoyed yourself.
