Reminder, log your serial numbers. Keep your guns close.

Shitty day... I am active military. Living away from my parents. I have my guns in a gun safe. And all serial numbers logged in multiple places including online drives. My dad just informed me my Grandpas old Winchester 1894 30-30 octagon barrel with 30 inch barrel and a Wein Blackpowder .80 caliber pistol went missing with a case from underneath his bed back home. He recently inherited it since my grandfather passed. And of course did not log the serial numbers.. I am heartbroken. This was my grandfathers favorite gun and a beautiful one at that. He suspects it was someone we know as none of the other guns were touched or taken. Not long ago my mothers grandmother passed and some of her family (not the best people, they also love out of town) were over and left alone for a bit and one even asked about my dads guns because one was visible. This really sucks. I never expected it to happen. And without serial numbers I feel absolutely fucked.

Edit. The rifle was found. It was in my old bedroom closet behind the dresser my dad put it there after my cousin asked about the guns under his bed when visiting. So relieved. I told him he needs to buy a safe this week and get me a log with all makes, models, caliber and SNs.
