Xcom 2 just crashed... to update itself?

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but up until now XCom 2 has NEVER crashed for me. I'd been playing today for a few hours, and when loading a mission today, it crashed for the first time.

When I clicked out of the program, it automatically tried to reload itself, and Steam said it was updating.

Probably just strange timing, but hey you never know. Anyone else experience a crash followed immediately by a game update just now?
