Talk newts to me
I've got a pair of ten gallon tanks, and one has a betta, and I'm not sure where I'm going with the other.
It's currently cycling (sponge filter) and I realized that newts exist and can be kept in a 10 gallon comfortably.
So, I know that they will probably need a basking platform, that they can escape, and that there are a billion different species. I don't even know which are commonly kept, which are illegal, anything. I just know that they exist, and are cool.
Does anyone have a database/care sheets? I obviously don't want to get a newt only to learn that I missed some vital part of its care, so anything you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
And, if you can answer any of these questions, so much the better.
-
What temperature range do newts need?
-
Should the tank be half water, half land? or almost filled up to the top with a floating platform?
-
Gravel or sand?
-
Do they need lots of places to hide?
-
Low or high pH? Soft or hard water?
-
Can they cohabitate with any fish? Considering white cloud mountain minnows. Would they be snacks?
-
What's the life expectancy?
