Questions about new succulent and cactus (never had a garden before!)

Hey guys, my wife bought me a cactus and a succulent to decorate my office cubicle with and I have a few questions! Could you help me out? Here's a picture of the plants. Sorry the pic isn't too good, I snapped it in a hurry. I can get a better one tomorrow if necessary.

Bit of background information: I sit at a cubicle, and several of my cubicle neighbors have plants. One guy has a bonsai and some bamboo. A girl has some type of flowers. I wanted to have some plants of my own, so my wife got me these and I immediately loved them. Ideally I'd like to get a small collection of desert plants going at my desk.

But I've been reading around and I'm worried. I've tried Googling for more info and gotten a general idea, but hopefully you guys can give me more specific info.

  1. What kind of succulent is that? I was told that the cactus is spachianus, but I don't know what the succulent is.

  2. Will these plants survive alright without direct sunlight? What about if I buy them one of these? I know that light is important to them, but when I searched Google and this sub for info on how much light, the answers get all confused. People have different opinions, and it seems to depend on the specific type of plant. Unfortunately I don't have access to a window at work and I can't do much better than a desk lamp, so if they absolutely must have sunlight to survive, I'll have to give up on them as office decorations.

  3. How are those pots? I'd like these things to grow. Apparently these plants don't need large pots. The succulent is in a hole bored in a solid wooden block. You can see that I have a slightly larger pot ready for the cactus if it needs to be repotted.

Thanks guys!
