Star Wars Galaxy

My theory is that the galaxy we see is younger than our galaxy. There's been less time for large objects (planets, suns) to completely clear their orbits. So we see planets closer to one another, binary stars are more prevalent, asteroid fields are denser, etc. This might also explain why all of the space battles play out like dogfights within an atmosphere. Maybe all of the "empty" space is slightly gaseous.
