Introducing my crazy FMIL, Jenny.
Jenny, my FMIL, does not like me at all. She's polite to my face, so I can't call her out, but she isn't exactly subtle either.
My fiancé, Jason, unfortunately still lives with his parents for reasons I will get into in a later post.
His parents are extremely devout Catholics. I grew up Catholic. I went to fifteen years of Catholic school and worked at a Catholic summer camp for a few years, so believe me when I say they're on a whole new level. His mom thinks Saints come and audibly speak to her. Not in signs, no, she hears voices. So she says. I say she should see a professional. But I digress.
Jason and I were in his house one afternoon when I noticed that my side of the one single photo of Jason and me that is in his parents' house is covered by a prayer card with the image of the Virgin Mary. I showed him and we laughed, thinking it was ironic since his mother had held hope he would become a priest for years, and then I slid the prayer card over a couple inches off the picture, assuming it had been a mistake. They have pictures of their other sons with their wives, so I thought it natural that they would have a picture of the two of us together displayed in the same location. We come back to his house after our date that night to find that the card had been replaced over the photo. We are somewhat amused, but also annoyed, and Jason moves the card to a lower shelf, where it is still clearly visible.
Jason takes me back to my car so I can make the drive home. We're talking on the way there and Jason tells his mother had said, "wouldn't [Jason] be happier with [girl who had tried to get him to break off our engagement]?". Her being an asshole not a rare occurrence, but this comment hit a nerve since this issue had caused a lot of insecurity for me, so I was extremely angry, and we end up walking around Walmart (the only thing still open at that hour in the shithole town he lives in) so I can calm down. While we're there, he gets a text demanding that we return the prayer card that we took since it was from her mother. He told her it had just been moved and to calm down. She sat him down the next morning to talk about it.
She tells him I'm tearing their family apart, and she's just trying to cope with the fact that he wants to be with me. She says she knows she's being childish, and that she confesses every week about just not being able to like me. She lies, and says she told my mom in a disastrous phone call they had in the fall that she didn't want a DIL like me - she did not. She doesn't have the balls to say something like that to my mother.
You know what, Jenny? You're a fucking liar and a hypocrite. I know you think you fucked up with your other asshole kids, but that's no reason to be such a dick to Jason. And no reason to be such a dick to me. You're weird with your other DILs, but not like this. Just stop.
TL; DR: FMIL covers my face in the one picture of Jason and me together that is in their house. It's a lovely picture from my senior prom. She covers the half of the photo with me in it with a prayer card of the Virgin Mary.
