Beginner set up for North Saskatchewan River?

I'm looking to spend my days off fishing the NSR in and around Edmonton. I haven't done a ton of fishing and most of it was done on lakes. I'm just looking for a good beginner spinning rod setup and lures for this area that don't cost a ton to get my feet wet. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
