(CAN) 27, need to invest savings, no idea what to invest into.
I hate having to choose how to invest money.
The typical scenario is that I'm talking to some finance counselor from some bank. And he asks me what I how I want to invest my money.
How the hell should I know? I'm a programmer. I know jack shit about investing money. Tell me what I should do instead.
And they always play coy at this point. "Well you can do this, or you can do that, it depends on what you want"
"You're the one who studied this. What do you think I should do?"
"Well you could do X, or you could do Y..."
I hate it.
I've read several times that investing money through a fund managed by a bank is a waste of money - that no fund manager can beat the market consistently, and they're sucking away profit through their "management fees".
So what am I supposed to do? What's the correct move? I'm 27, steadily employed, single, no house, no car, no real commitments. I've got a reasonable amount of savings that I'd like to make grow as much as possible - I want my money to make me more money.
What's the best way to do that?
